The primary purpose of IAPSAM is to sponsor and oversee the organization of the International Conferences on Probabilistic Safety Assessment and Management (PSAM). The objective of these conferences is to promote rational decision making to assure safety and reliability and to optimize the use of resources for complex systems. This is to be achieved through the use of risk assessment and management methods. The conferences shall provide a public forum for information exchanges covering both theory and applications of these methods to the design and operation of technological systems and processes. These conferences will be held at approximately two-year intervals. As part of the mission, PSAM
conferences recognize early-career researchers by awarding the George Apostolakis Award.
